Icarus and the minotaur in VR

Icarus - Mixed reality VR

Icarus - Mixed reality VR

Tribeca 2020 Selection

Inspired by Icare, a multidisciplinary piece by Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon presented at Montreal’s TNM theater in 2014, Icarus is an artistic mixed-reality piece that can be experienced by two people at a time. Each gets their own avatar of Icarus, the young man of myth whose wings melted when he flew too close to the sun. Viewers wear an HP VR backpack G2 and an integrated motion capture system that allows them to explore various virtual locations. Icarus is a multisensory experience: the two participants can interact with the environment and virtual objects around them, feel heat and wind, and most importantly, interact with one another.

Michel Lemieux’s first foray into VR is both lyrical and fully immersive, thanks to the creative work of Victor Pilon and Normal Studio.
