Our story

According to Albert Einstein, time is the fourth dimension. In our era of digital speed, we often only skim the surface of things. The mission of 4D ART is, first and foremost, to pause for a moment—to take the time to explore the depths of the human soul.

Founded by Michel Lemieux in Montreal in 1983, the multi- and interdisciplinary arts company 4D ART already has around fifty original productions in its repertoire. Initially gaining worldwide recognition, Michel Lemieux’s solo performances established the creative identity of 4D ART.

Since Victor Pilon joined as co-artistic director alongside Michel Lemieux, their unique work has fused theater, performance, dance, music, cinema, visual arts, and digital arts. The duo has created mesmerizing productions that enhance reality through the virtual, blending live arts with new media.

Lemieux and Pilon also collaborate on various other types of creations—shows, installations, and special events—with partners such as Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, the Montreal Planetarium, Cirque du Soleil, SAT, PHI Centre, Place des Arts, FIFA, Holland Festival, Opéra de Montréal and Opéra de Québec, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and the celebrations of Montreal’s 350th and 375th anniversaries. In 2016, they created CITÉ MÉMOIRE for Montréal en Histoires, a large-scale urban projection experience that continues to expand across the country.

Since 2019, the two co-artistic directors have primarily focused on solo works. Victor Pilon explores performance art, while Michel Lemieux works on digital installations and immersive experiences in virtual and augmented reality.

In a constantly evolving transdisciplinary movement, 4D ART remains fully relevant in today's artistic landscape.
