Orfeo
A mythical tragedy transposed into the contemporary world.
Loosely conceived as a tribute to Jean Cocteau, Orféo invites the audience to reflect on their relationship with life and the memories that haunt their existence. Set in a space of mourning where the world of the living and the dead intertwine, the performance is a plea for the power of love and the importance of human connection in an increasingly disembodied world.
Orfeo, a UN peacekeeper recently back from a mission, finally gets to spend a few hours with his beloved Eurydice. But she is soon struck down by a reckless driver. In his despair, Orféo turns to alcohol, which only deepens his pain and blurs the line between life and death. In the underworld, Eurydice is greeted by the angel Heurtebise, who struggles to understand the young woman's defiance. The angel then travels to the world of the living and becomes Orféo’s guide as he sets out to find Eurydice’s soul.
The lovers are finally reunited, but where exactly?
Is love still alive as long as it lives in the mind of the one who remains?
Can the pain of such a great loss be eased?
