Norman
A tribute to Norman McLaren
A true tribute to animation pioneer Norman McLaren, this production bridges performance art and documentary film. According to his own admission, McLaren would have been a choreographer if he hadn’t become a filmmaker; Norman thus uses movement (of light, image, and body) as the guiding thread to tame his universe.
Peter, a dancer obsessed with the movement evoked by the imagery in the filmmaker’s films, goes to the offices of the National Film Board of Canada to better understand the sources of inspiration of this creative genius. He will literally enter McLaren’s films to dance, converse, and reflect with them!
He will also watch interviews with people who knew McLaren and his work. These individuals materialize in the stage space to accompany him in his exploration and share their impressions, knowledge, and emotions, enhanced by a selection of about thirty of McLaren's films, including several unreleased ones.
A large portion of the images and music are taken from the films and works of Norman McLaren, with all the details appearing in the credits of the show.
