Le Théâtre du Nouveau Monde awards

Barely a few hours before the media premiere of Antoine and Cléopâtre, Lewis Furey’s long awaited modern opera, Le Théâtre du Nouveau Monde released its list of winners of the Gascon-Roux awards and the 2004-2005 Olivier-Reichenbach award for up-and-coming actors. Alexis Martin won the best performance by a leading actor award for Franz Kafka’s Le Procès, while Nathalie Mallette and Macha Limonchik shared the best performance by a leading actress award for, respectively, Lorca’s La Savetière Prodigieuse and Nancy Huston’s Une Adoration. The fantastic 3D adaptation of Shakespeare’s La Tempête was rewarded in three categories: Denise Guilbault, Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon won the award for best direction of a play, Alain Lortie won the award for best lighting design and the award for best sound went to Michel Smith. A tribute was also paid to François Séguin for scenic design on Le Procès, and Mérédith Caron for costume design on La Savetière. Finally, Benoît McGinnis (Une Adoration) won the “Prix de la Relève”, for up-and-coming actors, along with a 3000$ grant.
